This award celebrates the hard work and commitment of an individual working with in the public sector of Brighton & Hove and who has been nominated by the general public.
Public Service of the Year
This award is voted for by an internal panel initially and the selected shortlist is then voted for by the general public and celebrates a public service in the city that has had an outstanding year in all aspects of the service it offers from its personnel to the way the service has operated.
Volunteer of the Year
This award celebrates the hard work and commitment of an individual working with in a voluntary service in Brighton & Hove and who has been nominated by the general public.
School Support Champion Award
This award is open for nominations for any person who works in a supporting role at any school (infant, junior, primary, secondary, sixth form and special schools) across the city. This could be a teaching assistant, school caretaker, admin staff, mid day supervisors, parent support supervisors, lab & IT technicians, in fact anybody who is working in a supporting role for children and young people. Teachers and Head Teachers can be nominated for the city’s Public Servant of the Year Category.
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Services Community Safety Award
The award is open to members of the public, or any non fire & rescue service personnel, who has/have undertaken a project or initiative with a group, or wider community area , that has resulted in making the city a safer place to live and/or work. The award will recognise individuals or teams.
Examples would be:
- making an area free from deliberate fire setting
- making a group of children safer through road safety awareness
- making people safer in their home/office through general accident prevention work
- increasing the self respect of individuals and thus making them less likely to commit nuisance crime
Best Sustainability Initiative Award
This award is for an initiative which addresses one or more of the following priorities:
- work to cut carbon emissions by 10% in 2010 (the 10:10 campaign)
- sustainable consumption and production (achieving more with less)
- natural resource protection (helping wildlife)
- environmental enhancement or adaptation to impacts of climate change
- sustainable communities (tackling poverty & environmental degradation)
Sports & Physical Activity Award
Celebrating the most elite and hard working sports performer or sport volunteer(s) in Brighton & Hove.
Best Community Initiative Award
This award recognises organisations, groups or individuals within the city who have worked together to achieve a common goal and improved a community project.
Best Innovative Customer Service Award
This award is aimed at organisations that have evolved a pioneering way of serving its customers on a day to day basis.
Best Partnership Award
This award recognises the demonstrable outcome from an effective working partnership involving two or more organisations working within Brighton & Hove.
Tackling Inequality Award
This award celebrates processes, policies, ways of working as well as campaigns and initiatives aimed at addressing inequality in Brighton & Hove.
Best Health & Well Being Initiative Award
This award will be given to the best initiative aimed at improving health and increasing well being within the general public.
Best Contribution to the Local Economy Award
This award recognises the best contribution made by an organisation to the economy of Brighton & Hove. Contributions might be financial or be in the form of providing services aimed at improving business skills or coaching and mentoring new business.
Most Improved Service Award
This award will be given to the organisation that demonstrates the best improvement to a service they provide. Applicants will need to show improvement against verifiable criteria. Improvements will need to have been realised in the past 12 months.
