Safe Coomb 2010 - This project involved 20, 9-11 year olds from Moulsecomb, educating them in many safety areas including Fire & Road Safety, 1st Aid, Water Safety, Personal Safety, Drug & Alcohol awareness and Wildlife awareness.

Winner: Albion in the Community
Albion in the Community (AITC) is the charitable arm of Brighton & Hove Albion. In recent years it has become one of the most highly-regarded organisations of its kind in English professional football. In 2010 the Football League judged its Making a Difference Project (disability development project) with disabled people in Sussex to be the best community project in the country. Making a Difference’ recognises the importance of offering choice to disabled people. Albion in the Community believes that every disabled person should have the opportunity to play and take part in all aspects of football in an environment that is suitable for them. Making a Difference has developed inclusive, disability-specific and impairment-specific opportunities to help meet the needs of all our players. It is this choice that makes the Making a Difference project so special.
Volunteer of the Year
Winner: Ron Ayres
Ron runs the charity Lost Cats Brighton from his home in Portslade. Ron never turns a cat away, even if the cat has medical problems that will cost a lot of money, his commitment to cat welfare is unceasing, He really is an inspiration in his tireless work with cats. Ron is one of Brighton's unsung heroes, his genuine love of cats really shines through in the work he does. Thanks to Ron thousands of cats have left Lost Cats to live in homes with people that love them. Ron does this work because of his genuine love of animals; he doesn't expect any recognition for the work he does. He really deserves this award for his tireless work to help these cats. Ron also helps to educate people about cat welfare. Ron's charity has had a massive impact on cat welfare in Brighton.

Impetus is a local charity with only 19 part time staff but manages over 400 volunteers to deliver their services to the community. This is one of the highest ratios of volunteers to paid staff of any organisation in the city.

Tackling Inequality Award
Winner: Federation of Disabled People
The Get Involved project gives disabled people a chance to have their say when services are being planned or reviewed. They do this by providing a wide range of opportunities for disabled people and service providers to work in partnership in order to identify solutions to enable disabled people to participate equally in the community.
Partnership Award
Winner: Lifelines
This is an innovative project which operates at Patching Lodge that engages older people and resources to enable them to contribute to their local community . It was developed by Hanover Housing Association in partnership with the City Council and resulted from a successful bid for funding from the Department of Health
Lifelines has been commissioned as the delivery partner to develop a programme of services and activities to meet the needs of older people.
Innovative Customer Service Award
Winner: Brighton & Hove City Council Business Rates Team
Who provide pro-active support generally to local businesses, but particularly to small businesses by making sure they have claimed Small Business Rate Relief to help reduce their Business Rates.
Community Initiative Award
Winner: The Whitehawk Inn
As a community led organisation, the Whitehawk Inn works with residents, providers, community workers and local groups to gain a detailed understanding of the needs and wants of individuals and the community.
Sustainability Initiative Award
Winner: The Big Lemon CIC
The Big Lemon's aim is to make public transport affordable to everyone whilst having a low impact on the environment. They pride themselves on their customer service and so fully deserve this award.
Most Improved Service Award
Winner: Democratic Service Team Brighton & Hove City Council
Who have actively sought to improve the service they provide within Council but also sought to find ways to promote the council and councilors in the City and develop working relations with outside organisations. For a team that could easily remain an internally facing one, there has been a change of emphasis and people develop as individuals and a team become a conduit for improved relations with residents and an understanding of local decision-making.
Contribution to the Local Economy Award
Winner: Julie Stanford
For her work with SFEDI on the creation of business support materials for people starting and running businesses. Julie has also won national awards for her own business's start-up materials.
Julie recently launched a national partnership with SFEDI on start-up materials which have a qualification attached so that people can learn how to run a business and get a level 2 certificate. As well as launching it nationally through SFEDI Centres, she is planning the same programme in Brighton & Hove through the Chamber and Enterprise Agency with a view to supporting even more business start-ups in the city. She has also mentored business start-ups and was a SEEDA Advocate for Women's Enterprise.

Winner: Brighton & Hove Federation of Disabled People
Through its enthusiastic management, staff and volunteer teams the Federation enables local disabled people to lead independent lives; have choice and control and participate fully in City life.

Majella works at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, she looks after people even when she is not working, especially the elderly. she never forgets anyones birthday even if they live miles away, Mijella is exceptional and like most heros she is very modest, but she truly is a young Mother Teresa..
